Taco Time! We Found A Green Floating Taco Bar in the Caribbean — I Might Never Leave
This destination offers a wide variety of eccentric eateries that are sure to tantalize your taste buds and satisfy even the most irreverent cravings for obscure eats in paradise!
You could be bobbing in the azure Caribbean Sea, one hand grasping a tortilla heaped with saucy, slow-cooked curry chicken and potatoes, while the other grasps a bubbly spiked seltzer from local St. John Brewers, to temper the fiery kick of your taco’s freshly made jalapeño-cilantro-pineapple chutney.
Situated in Coral Harbor, a small settlement on the eastern side of the island, this vibrant and verdant taco shack was developed by three old friends; Richard Baranowski, Dane Tarr, and Dylan Buchalter. Built upon pontoon boats for easy maneuverability, this unique enterprise has become a beloved local landmark.
Baranowski, the proud owner of the beloved local restaurant Lime Inn (which cleverly matches its unique name with the delicious flavors it serves), has brought on board renowned chef Amaro Rivera to take charge in the kitchen.
To obtain access to the place, Lime Out, tourists have the option to rent a speedboat, kayak or paddleboard and thereafter travel by boat.
Swimming the 100 feet offshore to the bar and restaurant is strictly prohibited due to safety concerns. The eatery is located in a no wake zone, meaning that you’ll need to carefully swim a few feet away from your boat in order to reach the floating booths or tables at the swim-up bar where you can enjoy your meal.
Party-goers of Lime Out don’t need to worry about who will drive the boat—there needs to be a designated boat driver for this memorable lunch event.
The Danger, a craft cocktail crafted with Thai chili-infused tequila, fresh watermelon juice, and pineapple simple syrup, or the Harbor Cooler stirred with gin, house-made cucumber lime soda, and fresh lime juice – these are two icy cocktails that follow after classic mixes like margaritas and cosmos
Prices from $8-$12, Tacos boast options that can please every palate; whether it’s the vegan baller with paprika-smoked black beans, quinoa, pickled onions, jalapenos, radishes & organic microgreens or popular Mahi ceviche featuring citrus fruit.
Once you order, your meal will be carefully pushed from the barge to your floating booth, and incredibly, it will remain perfectly dry.
As you savor the flavors of your food, let the gentle waves of the ocean serve as your napkin; embrace this moment and luxuriate in the warmth of the sun before paddling back home with a souvenir t-shirt and a reusable cocktail cup in hand.
